Roof Access with a Rear Slide and No Ladder

My 24 ft Fleetwood TIOGA has a rear slide and is therefore without a convenient rear ladder access to the roof. Even using a ladder to get up there can have it's perils. On my rig, there is literally nothing that is both strong enough and close enough to hold on to for support while getting on and off the ladder and onto the roof.
When my A/C quit.. getting on and off the roof became a necessity.
Solution ?
I positioned a step-ladder beside my rig at the best spot to get onto the roof. From the bottom of the step-ladder, I slung a length of 5/8" dia rope over the roof and anchored it to the bottom of opposite side of the rig. Now I had FIRMLY anchored rope that was both strong and thick enough for me to grab onto, while I litterly pulled myself off the ladder and over the roof edge and onto the roof.
Because the rope could, if necessary, support all of my weight, the step-ladder is less likely to get 'kicked' away when moving onto and off the ladder. And, if the step ladder did fall, you can still pull yourself back up onto the roof again.

Not dignified !...but it works! Rob

The next Rope Roof Access Test will be made using a 'picnic table'. Hmmm Rob
