Buying or selling a van.

Currently in the process of selling my van. I have a buyer flying in from out of state. Found this service that escrows the funds and handles, paper work, titling etc. Spoke to them via a phone call today and they were very helpful. Wait time was about 2 minutes. Costs about $200. Pretty cool. Wish I had thought of it.

Sonny, back in my day, we used a briefcase to buy used cars.

When I was 16, I had the opportunity to buy a 1970 AAR Cuda for $1700. Complete. A buddy brother beat me to it by a few hours. Sweet car. It had been repainted but original color was plum crazy. Beautiful car.

Saabs are cool, but have a face only a mother can love.

A 1974 Saab 99. With the engine backwards and the transmission in the oil pan. Genius.

It wasn't terrible. We had a '76 99 GL. You could replace the clutch without removing the transaxle, and it was pointed in a direction which made access pretty easy.

I will say that I have attempted to buy three used Saabs in my life. During the test drive they either wouldn't start or they shat the gearbox and had to be towed back. I decided it was a sign that I shouldn't follow through with the purchase.

My brother got many years out of his 900 turbo.

I've taken cash with me for high four-figure vehicle purchases without too much concern. Getting into five figures for a built-out would give me pause, as either the buyer or the seller. An escrow service might work, but how do you know to trust the escrow service?

They are actually a dealer licensed in 50 states. They buy the vehicle from you, then sell it to the buyer. They handle the title, paperwork, loan payoff, bill of sale, background check and vehicle title search, etc.
